The Finals – Championship Night!

Wow. It was standing room only, so many people came out to support Make-A-Wish and the teams! A wonderful night, made all the more special because when we tallied all the donations, we raised (drum roll please): $19,000 for Make-A-Wish! That allows Make-A-Wish to grant two (2!!!) wishes to children and their families. We are stunned and oh so happy!

A major thank you to the teams and their supporters. They worked so hard, with great enthusiasm, to raise an astounding amount of money. Big thank yous also to the volunteers who contributed their time and effort, especially our fantastic referees Russ and Renee, and the wonderful people from Kohl’s. Also, Jim, from Wedding And Party, for volunteering as sound man and the use of his wonderful equipment. On behalf of the CT Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, thanks to everyone who made the event such a success and so much fun!

A wonderful wrap-up article from the Hartford Courant‘s A La Carte blog, and writer, Leeanne Griffin. Read it here.

The Champions – The Wing Men!

Congratulations to the Wing Men, our 2013 Wings For Wishes Champions! The competition this year was VERY close; we had 3 tiebreakers and one tiebreaker wing off. Many teams were within just 1 or 2 wings of winning. But, the Wing Men persevered and came through the Champs. Thanks to all the teams for an awesome competition.

The Finals: Thursday, August 22nd, 7:00 pm

Don’t miss out on the Championship round, 8/22, at 7:00pm. We’ve had two tiebreakers so far, maybe another one? Most importantly: come out to support Make-A-Wish and help us and the teams grant a sick child’s wish.

The teams for the Championship:

#CTBrewCrew

Buffalo Soldiers

The Mad Men

Wings of Glory

The Wing Men

Hope to see you there!

Congrats to #CTBrewCrew! (Wow)

Unbelievable. Stunning. Amazing. Inspiring. Heartwarming. Those words aptly describe the fundraising efforts of the team #CTBrewCrew. They have raised (are you ready?): $5,375! Not a typo. Again, $5,375! By doing so not only did they get us very close to granting a child’s wish, but they gained entry to the Finals via the Wild Card for raising the most money of any team. We, at J. Timothy’s, and the staff of Make-A-Wish CT Chapter, are truly grateful for their amazing, stunning, unbelievable and inspiring fundraising. The team: Jay, Aron, Joe, Ed, and Dan, along with their fabulous supporters, went to herculean lengths to make sure a child’s wish is granted. Welcome to the Finals, #CTBrewCrew, and thank you so much!

You can read about them in more detail here; a wonderful story from Leeanne Griffin of the Hartford Courant A La Carte blog.

Playoff 3: No Tiebreaker!

Playoff round 3 on August 15th did NOT need a tiebreaker! Three teams competed: The Gentlemen (back for a second year!), We Like Wingies, and The Wing Men. Congratulations to: The Wing Men! They’re in the Finals on Thursday, August 22nd. Thanks so much to all of the teams! It was a great night with a lot of families there supporting their teams.

Playoff 2: ANOTHER Tiebreaker Wing Off!

Another playoff, another tie! Playoff 2, on August 14th, had 3 great teams: AAA Wingnuts, Buffalo Soldiers, and Domination. Both AAA and Buffalo Soldiers competed last year, welcome back! Did their repeat performance give them an edge? Well, maybe experience counted a little bit because … at the end of regular play, we had a tie between Buffalo Soldiers and Domination! AAA Wingnuts were so close, but, alas, they didn’t win. The tiebreaker (one player from each team head-to-head, eat as many wings as you can in 2 minutes) went to: Buffalo Soldiers! They were in the finals last year too; congratulations! Here are some pictures from a fantastic night!

Playoff Round 1: A Tiebreaker Wing Off!

Wowsa! Four great teams competed Thursday, August 8th, which resulted in a 3-way tie! Just one wing separated all the teams. Brooke’s Brothers were soooooo close, but the teams advancing to the Tiebreaker Wing Off were: #CTBrewCrew, Wings of Glory, and The Mad Men. Each team picked one person to compete; they had 1:30 to eat as many wings as possible. And guess what? Another tie! So both teams – Wings of Glory and The Mad Men – are advancing to the Finals on Thursday, August 22nd. Congratulations! And, congrats to #CTBrewCrew! Though they didn’t receive an automatic berth to the Finals, they did win Best Costume/Best Cheerleaders. Check out the pictures below.
